SBB Cargo increased its traffic volume by 8.3 % in 2007, bringing the total to 13.37 billion net tonne-kilometres, and raised its traffic revenues by 5.6 %. At the same time, however, the annual result deteriorated sharply: the company ended the financial year with an operating loss of CHF 87.9 million. In response, SBB has initiated far-reaching measures aimed at achieving a sustainable improvement in profits. A first set of measures was initiated during the year under review. Further action is needed in order to achieve a break-even result in the medium term.
